Chapter 10

It is hard to believe that conventional wisdom suggests that those who are modest are running and hiding from sex. It is sad to me to think that if a person doesn't want to have sex than there is something wrong with them. Why should women who want to wait to have sex have to hide it from the world? People shouldn't feel guilty or out of place when they decide to wait. The decline in modesty that has become so real today has changed the way the people of this world view relationships. While one used to have to be ashamed and embarrassed of having sex, people are now becoming ashamed of waiting. A return to modesty may change that.

The way I look at it no matter what stance our society is currently taking regarding modesty there will always be judgement and criticism. Sure it is sad that people are judged on such a personal decision, but even back when modesty was "in" with society there was much criticism directed towards those who were considered "out." A person's level of modesty is not the only thing that is constantly being judged; every decision we make is scrutinized. Therefore, we simply have to decide and stand strong.

I agree, you are going to be ostracized for being different no matter what the difference is. People need to develop their own beliefs and values and stick to them, whether they follow society or not. A return to modesty would probably do society some good, however for it to even begin, there needs to be a return to oneself. Meaning, people need to stop being scared to be themselves and modesty will soon follow.

I completly agree with Bryan! Nowadays there is a stigmatization of those who choose the modesty path! And as said in previous comment it is just due to the fact that today the norm has changed it is no more fit to be willing to wait until marriage!
This situation is due to the fact that there is a decrease in the value of mutual respect! Or should I say that intolerence has remain the same it is just the object of it that has changed! Modernization and globalization should have created more open minded societes!
Maybe we should learn how to be tolerent and respect one's choices!
